Orchomenos was the principal rival to Thebes within the Boeotian League, and its independent coinage reflects periods when it successfully resisted Theban monetary dominance. The tritetartemorion — three-quarters of an obol — was a denomination almost exclusive to central Greece, where small silver fractions circulated for daily market transactions at a granular level rarely seen elsewhere in the Greek world.
The city was razed by Thebes in 364 BC, which hard-dates the end of this series.
