背面描述 Head of a ram facing right, depicted with naturalistically rendered fleece and curved horn, set within an incuse square as typical of early Greek hammered fractional coinage. The Greek ethnic legend ΓΑΡ, abbreviating ΓΑΡΓΑΡΑ (Gargara), appears in the field beside the ram's head. The incuse technique and compact design reflect the civic coinage conventions of the Troad region during the classical period.

附加信息

Gargara was a minor Troad settlement whose coinage output was modest even by regional standards — this fractional denomination, worth three-quarters of an obol, served the smallest daily transactions in a market economy where bronze had not yet displaced silver at the bottom of the scale. The city's autonomy during this period was perpetually precarious, squeezed between Athenian naval influence in the Hellespont and Persian administrative pressure from the satrapy of Hellespontine Phrygia.

The SNG von Aulock reference places this among a tightly documented but numerically rare group of Gargaran issues.
