Bohemond IV ruled both Tripoli and Antioch simultaneously for stretches of his reign, a consolidation forced by dynastic crisis rather than ambition — his hold on Antioch was contested violently and repeatedly. The pougeoise au castel type circulated through a county whose commercial lifeline depended on Italian merchant communities, particularly the Genoese, who maintained their own quarter in Tripoli and whose trade demands shaped local monetary supply more than any comital policy did.
Thedate range spans the fall of Jerusalem to Saladin and the early decades of Crusader retrenchment along the Syrian coast.
