The royal effigy is rendered in the characteristically bold hammered style of the Oxford Mint, with bust size and the rendering of the olive branch subject to variation across dies. The obverse legend encircles the design, with the king's titles abbreviated in Latin. Struck as the largest denomination of the English Civil War coinage, the Triple Unite reflects the urgent wartime production at Oxford. |
