| Obverse description | Bear advancing left in high relief, rendered in the archaic style with stylized, star-like pellet patterns articulating the fur across the body. The animal is depicted in a naturalistic walking pose, its head lowered and forelegs extended. The figure occupies the full breadth of the flan, with the field left plain around it. The incuse striations visible at the lower margin serve as a groundline. This bear is the civic emblem of Mantinea, sacred to Artemis Kalliste. |
