Beschrijving voorzijde Facing slightly left, the veiled and diademed head of Hera is rendered in fine archaic-transitional style, her flowing hair falling in loose locks about her neck. The goddess's features are delicately modelled with almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose, and slightly parted lips, conveying a serene divine dignity. A low polos or stephane is visible atop the head, consistent with iconographic conventions for Hera on coinage of the Argive region. The field is plain, with no exergue or additional devices.

Aanvullende informatie

Argos Amphilochikon — not to be confused with the far more prominent Argos in the Peloponnese — was a small city in Amphilochia, the inland region of Acarnania in northwestern Greece. Its autonomous coinage is rare; the city's political independence was fragile throughout the fourth century, caught between the competing pressures of the Acarnanian League and Macedonian expansion pushing southward.
