Trillina - Johann Jakob Trivulzio

Johann Jakob Trivulzio held Mesocco as an imperial fief while simultaneously serving as a Marshal of France — one of the more improbable dual allegiances of the Italian Wars period. His lordship over the Val Mesocco was ceded to the Graubünden in 1549, well after his death, ending a brief dynasty of petty coinage that had no business existing on this scale. The trillina, a fractional copper denomination, circulated within an Alpine valley economy largely indifferent to the political theater playing out below.
