Delphi's autonomous coinage is closely tied to the sanctuary's administration of the Amphictyonic League and the revenues flowing through Panhellenic festivals. These small fractional silver pieces circulated within the sanctuary economy — fees, offerings, and the day-to-day transactions of one of the ancient world's busiest religious sites. The mint operated sporadically, and the overall volume of Delphic coinage was never large.
The BCD Lokris reference places this specimen within a collection assembled over decades by a single specialist — the BCD sale at Nomos in 2008 remains the definitive reference point for central Greek fractionals of this period.
