| Obverse description | Facing gorgoneion rendered in archaic relief, depicting the apotropaic mask of the Gorgon with wide-open eyes, broad flat nose, and protruding tongue between bared teeth. The hair is rendered as a series of rounded coils or serpentine locks radiating from the crown of the head. The initial letter T (for Tegea) appears above the gorgoneion in the upper field. The overall style is characteristic of late 5th-century Arcadian coinage. |
