Atrax was a fortified Thessalian city on the Peneios River, significant enough militarily that Philip II of Macedon besieged it — unsuccessfully — around 198 BC, and again Flamininus failed to take it. That the city maintained its own silver coinage across this period reflects the political fragmentation of Thessaly before Philip II dissolved the regional leagues and absorbed the territory into Macedonian control after 344 BC, which likely marks the hard terminus for this series.
