Obverse description Thessalian horseman advancing to the right, depicted in energetic motion atop a galloping horse. The rider wears a kausia, the characteristic flat Macedonian-Thessalian cap, and sits bareback in the manner typical of Thessalian coinage. The composition fills the flan dynamically, with the horse rendered in fine relief showing musculature and extended forelegs. The irregular flan, characteristic of early Thessalian issues, leaves portions of the field uneven.

Reverse description Bull standing to the left upon a straight ground line, rendered in robust high relief with careful attention to anatomical detail including the dewlap and musculature. The Greek ethnic inscription of the city of Atrax is divided into two lines: ΑΤΡΑ above the bull and ΓΙΩΝ below the ground line, reading together as ΑΤΡΑΓΙΩΝ (of the Atragians). The composition is contained within the broad, slightly irregular flan typical of this Thessalian series.
