| Obverse description | Pegasus, the winged horse emblematic of Corinth, depicted in flight to the left with wings raised and forelegs extended in a prancing pose. The creature is rendered in archaic relief with carefully delineated musculature and feathered wings. A small koppa (Ϙ), the archaic Corinthian letter serving as a civic symbol, appears below the horse in the lower field. The flan is irregularly shaped, as is typical of small hammered silver fractions of this period. The overall style reflects the confident hand of a skilled Corinthian die engraver working in the mid-fifth century BC. |
