| Beschrijving voorzijde | Rooster standing right in profile, rendered in archaic style with detailed plumage and comb; a solar symbol (sun) appears to the upper left in the field. The cockerel type is characteristic of early Troadean coinage, the bird depicted with naturalistic feathering across the wing and tail. No inscription or legend is present; the flan is irregularly rounded with a slightly rough surface typical of early hammered silver coinage. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Dardanos, a small Troad settlement on the Asian shore of the Hellespont, minted sparingly and briefly, likely as a practical necessity for local port commerce rather than civic ambition. Its coinage is among the least documented of the Troad series, and attribution of individual pieces has shifted more than once in the scholarly literature.
480 BC places this coin in the same year Xerxes crossed the Hellespont — almost certainly within sight of Dardanos itself.
