Obverse description Bearded head of Herakles in right profile, wearing the scalp of the Nemean lion as a headdress, with the jaws framing the hero's crown and the mane rendered in fine parallel strands falling behind the neck. The facial features are modelled in a robust archaic-classical style, with a prominent brow, well-defined beard rendered in globular curls, and a strong jawline. The flan is slightly irregular, characteristic of Thessalian hammered coinage of the period.
