Reverse description Helmeted head of Athena facing right in profile, depicted in the early Archaic style with a Corinthian helmet pushed back on the head, rendered within a shallow incuse square typical of early Athenian coinage. The abbreviated ethnic inscription ΑΘΕ (for ΑΘΕΝΑΙΟΝ, 'of the Athenians') appears to the left of the effigy within the incuse field. The engraving exhibits the bold, schematic quality characteristic of pre-classical Athenian die-work.
