Obverse description Facing gorgoneion depicted in high relief, with broad flat face, prominent staring eyes, and wild flowing hair framing the visage. Small horns or earrings are visible at the upper sides of the head. The design fills the flan and is rendered in the archaic Greek style characteristic of Carian mint issues of the late fifth to early fourth century BC.
