Antioch's civic bronze issues of this period were produced under the Roman provincial administration of Syria, and the years 6–13 AD fall squarely within the governorship framework that followed the deposition of Archelaus of Judaea and the annexation of his territory — the administrative reorganization that triggered the census famously recorded in Luke's gospel. The so-called "Star of Bethlehem" attribution in the modern market is a collector designation, not an ancient one, applied to bronzes of this type because their dating window overlaps with the hypothesized astronomical event.
RPC I 4269 is among the more frequently encountered Antiochene civic bronzes, having circulated across a commercially active region.
