Reverse description A ram walking or leaping to the right, depicted in profile with detailed rendering of the body and legs, accompanied by a star above, traditionally identified as the Star of Bethlehem in modern numismatic literature. The Greek legend ΕΠΙ ΣΙΛΑΝΟΥ ΔΜ ΑΝΤΙΟXΕΩΝ runs around the periphery, identifying the Roman governor Silanus and the city of the Antiochenes. A date mark appears in the field indicating the regnal year of issue. The overall composition is characteristic of the civic bronze coinage struck at Antioch on the Orontes under Augustus.
