正面描述 Laureate head of Apollo facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with curling locks of hair framing the face and a wreath of laurel encircling the brow. The youthful, idealized features display characteristic refinement of Thessalian civic coinage. The portrait is set within a beaded border that follows the coin's irregular flan.

附加信息

Metropolis was a minor Thessalian polis whose coinage output was limited enough that the entire known series fits within a single BCD auction catalog sequence. The city sat in the Thessaliotis region and operated largely under the political shadow of larger neighbors — first the Thessalian League, then Macedonian hegemony following Philip II's reorganization of the region after 352 BC. That political subordination likely explains the modest scale of local bronze production across the type's long attributed span.

BCD Thessaly II remains the principal reference for this series, drawing from the collection assembled over decades by a single anonymous European collector whose holdings defined modern scholarship on Thessalian bronzes.
