Triassarion - Philip I ΚΟΙΝ ΜΑΚΕΔΟ Β ΝΕΩ ΕΝ ΒΕΡΟΙΑ, Beroea

The Macedonian Koinon — the regional assembly that administered Roman Macedonia as a collective body — struck provincial bronze at Beroea sporadically under the Severans and their successors, but issues under Philip I reflect a specific moment of imperial favor: Philip cultivated the eastern provinces carefully after his negotiated settlement with Shapur I in 244, and the Koinon coinages of his reign tend to cluster in the years immediately following that controversial peace. Whether the assembly at Beroea was rewarding loyalty or simply resuming interrupted production is unresolved in the literature.
