正面铭文 ΑΥΤΟΚ ΝΕΡΟΥΑΝ ΚΑΙϹΑΡΑ ϹΕΒΑϹΤΟΝ
(Translation: Imperator Nerva Caesar Augustus)
背面描述 Veiled and draped bust of Demeter facing right, with a torch resting on her shoulder; she holds ears of grain and a poppy in her hand, attributes emblematic of her role as goddess of the harvest. The reverse legend ΕΠΙΦΑΝΕωΝ identifies the issuing city of Epiphanea in Cilicia, while the ethnic date ΔΞΡ corresponds to year 164 of the local civic era, equivalent to 96–97 AD. The design reflects the strong Hellenistic religious tradition maintained in the provincial coinage of Cilicia under Roman imperial rule.

附加信息

Epiphaneia in Cilicia was a Seleucid foundation, its very name — "the Illustrious" — a piece of dynastic flattery that outlasted the dynasty itself by centuries. Under Roman provincial administration, cities like Epiphaneia retained the right to strike low-denomination bronze for local circulation, a privilege jealously maintained as a marker of civic identity long after any practical monetary autonomy had evaporated. Nerva's reign lasted barely sixteen months, making provincials struck in his name inherently scarce simply by the arithmetic of the calendar.
