背面描述 Two standing figures face one another in the field: Demeter at right, turned to the left, extends her right hand offering corn ears toward Persephone and holds a long torch in her left hand; Persephone at left, turned to the right, grasps a long torch in her right hand and raises her left hand to touch Demeter's shoulder in a gesture of greeting or reunion. The composition evokes the mythological reunion of the two goddesses, a subject of particular religious significance at Odessos. A Greek civic legend is disposed in the field and along the periphery.

附加信息

Julia Maesa was the power behind the Severan restoration — grandmother of Elagabalus, she engineered his elevation to the purple in 218 AD by circulating the claim that he was the illegitimate son of Caracalla. Odessos, a Black Sea colony with deep Hellenistic religious roots, was among the provincial mints that struck under her name during his reign. The Moushkmadzian reference variant designation suggests a minor die difference from the catalogued type, not uncommon given the decentralized nature of provincial production at this mint.
