The visage is rendered in archaic Sicilian style with broad, flattened features and deeply incised eyes. A crown of serpents or globular protrusions encircles the head, characteristic of the apotropaic Gorgon type employed by Himera. The image fills the flan with bold, high-relief modeling. The field is otherwise plain, with no legend or additional devices. |

Himera's bronze coinage of the late fifth century was struck in the shadow of the city's first destruction — the Carthaginian sack of 409 BC loomed ahead, and this trias belongs to the final generations of a mint that would be obliterated entirely within decades. After 409, Himera ceased to exist as a city. No subsequent issues bear its name.
