Luis I reigned for just 229 days before dying of smallpox in August 1724, making this issue one of the shortest-lived regal coinages in Spanish history. Majorca's mint at Palma struck these pieces during a reign so brief that production almost certainly never reached its intended volume.
The treseta denomination was specific to the Balearic monetary system, distinct from mainland Castilian coinage structures.
