Additional information

Barcelona's municipal gold coinage occupied a peculiar administrative niche — the city minted in its own name under royal license, a privilege jealously defended through the Catalan constitutions. This particular emission coincided with Philip III's near-total disengagement from Aragonese affairs, leaving much of the Crown of Aragon's monetary administration to local institutions operating with unusual autonomy.

Cal#74 is among the scarcer fractions in this series, with documented surviving examples numbering in the low dozens across major collections.
