| Beschrijving voorzijde | Stylized facing bust of King Wittiza in the field, rendered in the highly schematic late Visigothic manner with debased classical features. The bust is encircled by a beaded or toothed border. A Latin legend in degraded majuscule lettering runs around the periphery, reading +INDNNE VVITA PI, a contracted invocation referencing the king's name and epithet. The overall workmanship reflects the provincial hammered coinage tradition of early eighth-century Hispania. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Wittiza's reign is one of the more contested in late Visigothic history — ancient sources, largely written by enemies or successors, paint him as a reformer to some and a degenerate to others. What is less disputed is that his kingdom was already fracturing badly, and within two years of his death the Muslim conquest under Tariq ibn Ziyad had swept the peninsula. Toledo as a mint would cease to function under Visigothic authority entirely by 711.
Tremisses of Wittiza from Toledo are scarce relative to earlier reigns, reflecting the compressed timeframe and probable disruption to mint operations near the end.
