Reverse description Central field dominated by a large equal-armed cross of Maltese or potent form, rendered in bold relief in the characteristic schematic style of late Visigothic coinage. The cross is flanked and surrounded by a profusion of pointed star-shaped pellets and angular ornaments filling the field. A wreath border or beaded inner ring encloses the central design. The circular Latin legend + MENTESA PIV runs around the outer periphery, citing the mint of Mentesa along with the epithet PIV (Pius), a standard pious acclamation on Visigothic tremisses.
