Suintila ruled the Visigothic Kingdom from 621 until his deposition in 631, when the nobility — backed by Frankish pressure and internal resentment over his consolidation of royal power — forced him from the throne at the Fourth Council of Toledo. He is historically notable for completing the expulsion of the Byzantine presence from Hispania around 624, making him the first king to rule the entire peninsula. The Laetera mint, identified with the town of Lérida in modern Catalonia, was one of the more active provincial gold-striking operations under his reign.
