Additional information

Sisenand seized the Visigothic throne in 631 by inviting Frankish military intervention — he ceded the territory around Zaragoza to Dagobert I in exchange for an army — and ruled until his death in 636. Coins struck in his name at Asidona (modern Jerez de la Frontera, or possibly Medina Sidonia) are among the scarcer issues of his reign, reflecting the limited output of southern Iberian mints relative to Toledo.
