Obverse description Facing bust of King Sisebut rendered in the schematic late antique style characteristic of Visigothic coinage, depicted with a broad, flat face, large stylized eyes, and a prominent forehead adorned with a diadem or crown suggested by pellet ornaments. The bust is shown from the front in a hieratic, frontal posture with drapery indicated by incised lines on the lower portion. Surrounding the effigy is the circular Latin legend + SISEBVTVS REX, with individual letters separated by cross and pellet devices. The overall design reflects the degenerate but distinctive artistic conventions of early seventh-century Iberian goldsmithing.
