Obverse description Facing stylized royal bust of Sisebut in high relief at center, rendered in the schematic late antique manner characteristic of Visigothic coinage, with an arched diadem surmounting the head and a triangular ornamental collar or pectoral below the neck. The facial features are rendered in a highly stylized fashion with pellet eyes and interlaced or knotted motifs. The surrounding circular legend in Latin retrograde or irregular characters reads +SISEBVTVS RE, divided by a cross pattee at top. The coin is struck on an irregularly shaped flan with a beaded or serrated border.
