| Obverse description | Facing stylized royal bust of Sisebut in high relief at center, rendered in the schematic late antique manner characteristic of Visigothic coinage, with an arched diadem surmounting the head and a triangular ornamental collar or pectoral below the neck. The facial features are rendered in a highly stylized fashion with pellet eyes and interlaced or knotted motifs. The surrounding circular legend in Latin retrograde or irregular characters reads +SISEBVTVS RE, divided by a cross pattee at top. The coin is struck on an irregularly shaped flan with a beaded or serrated border. |
