Sisebut reigned from 612 to 621 and is one of the more historically legible Visigothic kings — a literate ruler who corresponded with Isidore of Seville and authored a hagiographic poem on Saint Desiderius. His reign also saw the forced conversion of Iberian Jews, a policy Isidore explicitly criticized. Tremisses struck in his name at Egitania, the former Roman *Igaedis* in what is now Idanha-a-Velha, Portugal, are among the scarcer mint attributions of his issue, reflecting the town's modest but administratively real role in the Visigothic provincial network.
