Obverse description Frontal facing bust of King Sisebut rendered in the schematic Visigothic style, depicted with a rounded arched crown or helmet surmounting the head, the facial features summarily indicated by punched pellets and lines. The bust is draped and shown frontally in the centre of the flan, surrounded by a dense field of pellets, stars, and cross-pattee motifs arranged in a radiating pattern between two beaded border circles. A small cross appears at the top of the design above the royal effigy, emphasising the Christian character of Visigothic royal coinage. The legend + SISEBVTVS RE runs around the periphery in Latin capitals within the outer beaded border.
