正面描述 Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Romulus Augustulus facing right, rendered in the late Roman imperial style with a pearl diadem adorning the head. The emperor is depicted with paludamentum fastened at the shoulder, conveying martial authority. Surrounding the effigy, the Latin legend reads D N ROMVLVS AGVSTVS P F AVG distributed around the periphery of the flan. The portrait, though stylistically simplified relative to earlier imperial coinage, retains the essential iconographic conventions of fifth-century Roman gold coinage. The flan is slightly irregular, as is characteristic of hammered tremisses of this period.

附加信息

Romulus Augustulus ruled for less than a year before Odoacer deposed him in September 476, the event conventionally marking the end of the Western Roman Empire. This tremissis was struck at Mediolanum — modern Milan — which had functioned as the effective imperial capital of the West since Diocletian's administrative reorganization in the late third century, Rome itself having become strategically inconvenient. The mint was still operating under the fiction of Roman imperial authority even as Odoacer's Herulian federates were effectively in control of northern Italy.

RIC X records only a handful of types for this reign, making any attribution to Romulus Augustulus genuinely scarce rather than artificially so.
