| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central device consisting of a prominent cross pattée or equal-armed cross set upon a stepped or tiered base, a motif closely associated with Visigothic ecclesiastical iconography and common on tremisses of this reign. The cross is rendered boldly in high relief against a plain gold field. The surrounding Latin legend, disposed around the periphery in the characteristic loose arrangement of the Ispali (Seville) mint, identifies both the mint and the royal epithet. The die engraving is vigorous but schematic, consistent with the hammered workshop tradition of the late Visigothic period. |
