Obverse description Facing bust of King Recceswinth rendered in the late antique Visigothic style, depicted frontally with schematic facial features and a diademed or crowned head. The effigy is shown with draped shoulders, occupying the central field in a highly stylized, somewhat degenerate manner characteristic of seventh-century Visigothic coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust reading + RECCESVINTVS R, identifying the issuing monarch. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped at the rim, consistent with hammered gold coinage of this period. A beaded or serrated border frames the entire design.
