Obverse description Facing bust of the king in the Byzantine imperial tradition, depicted frontally with a diademed and beaded headdress surmounted by a cross, the bust shown draped and cuirassed within a beaded inner circle. The facial features are rendered in a schematic, late antique style typical of Visigothic gold coinage. The surrounding Latin legend reads + RECCAREDVS RE, distributed around the circumference of the flan.
