Recaredo I's conversion to Nicene Christianity in 589 — renouncing the Arianism that had defined Visigothic royal identity for over a century — triggered immediate administrative and ecclesiastical realignment across Iberia. Coinage issued from Ispali (Seville) during his reign reflects that transitional decade, when the kingdom was simultaneously consolidating Catholic orthodoxy, suppressing Arian revolts among the Visigothic nobility, and resisting Byzantine pressure along the southern coast.
The Ispali mint was among the more active Visigothic production centers, though attribution of individual pieces to specific years within the 586–601 window remains impossible on typological grounds alone. Pliego's classification refines earlier CNV sequencing but does not resolve all die-linkage questions for this type.
