Recaredo I's conversion from Arianism to Nicene Christianity in 589 — announced at the Third Council of Toledo — was among the most consequential religious decisions in Iberian history, and the coinage issued from the Elvora mint falls squarely within that ideological transition. Whether pieces from this mint predate or postdate the conversion is rarely determinable by die alone, which makes the full reign bracket necessary.
Elvora's identification as a mint site relies heavily on Pliego's corpus work. CNV#102 is among the more sparsely documented types in the series.
