| Obverse description | Facing bust of King Recaredo I in the Byzantine imperial tradition, depicted frontally with a stylized diademed head surmounted by a cross. The bust is rendered in a schematic, flat relief characteristic of Visigothic coinage, with horizontally striated drapery suggesting armor or royal robes. Flanking the bust are elements of the circular Latin legend reading + RECCAREDVS REX, distributed around the field. The flan is irregular, as is typical of hammered Visigothic tremisses, with a beaded inner border visible around the periphery. |
