| Reverse description | A bold anchored cross occupies the center of the reverse field, its shaft terminating in splayed feet and surmounted by a tied or knotted element at the top, a design type commonly associated with ecclesiastical influence on Merovingian coinage. The cross is set within a beaded border, with the civic legend of Sion running around the periphery of the irregular flan. The die engraving is characteristically crude yet vigorous, consistent with provincial Frankish workshop production of the early seventh century. |
