| Beschrijving keerzijde | A bold equal-armed cross occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle of pellets, with the Latin moneyer legend disposed around the periphery. The cross, characteristic of Merovingian tremisses of the late sixth and early seventh century, is rendered in high relief with slightly splayed terminals. The surrounding legend names the moneyer Maurelius, and the overall design reflects the Frankish adaptation of Byzantine tremissis iconography as practised at the Lyon mint. |
