Reverse description A bold Latin cross on a stepped or flat base occupies the central field, a type directly derived from late Roman and Byzantine tremissis prototypes. Six pellets are arranged in two rows beneath the base of the cross, serving as a distinctive differentiating mark of this Dorestad emission. The execution is confident though stylised, consistent with the die-cutting conventions of Merovingian Frisian-area moneyers. The encircling legend names the responsible moneyer, reading MAΔ•ELINVS M, distributed around the periphery of the irregular flan.
