| Beschrijving voorzijde | Stylized diademed bust facing right, rendered in the degenerate late antique manner characteristic of Merovingian gold coinage. The effigy retains vestigial traces of the imperial portrait tradition, with a diadem visible above the brow and schematic facial features. Scattered pellets appear in the field to the left. The abbreviated legend PAX is placed around the bust within a beaded border. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Banassac, a minting site in the Lozère region of southern Gaul, was one of the most prolific tremissis-producing workshops of the Merovingian period — unusual given its remote location in the Massif Central. The site's output appears tied to wool and cattle trade routes through the region rather than any major administrative center. Moneyers at Banassac enjoyed considerable autonomy, lending their own names to issues in ways that make individual die-linked series traceable across decades.
Elafius is among the better-documented Banassac moneyers by name frequency alone.
