背面描述 A bold cross pattée mounted on a globus in the center of the field, the arms of the cross rendered with characteristic Merovingian vigor. The central device is entirely enclosed within a prominent pelleted border composed of closely spaced beads, a hallmark of Frankish tremissis reverse design. The moneyer's name legend + BERTECRΛMNO encircles the design, identifying the responsible monetary official. The overall composition is compact and well-centered given the irregular flan. The style reflects the transition from Byzantine-influenced prototypes toward distinctly Frankish artistic conventions.

附加信息

Merovingian tremisses of this period were struck not by royal authority in any centralized sense, but by independent moneyers who operated with remarkable autonomy — the moneyer's name often appearing more prominently than any royal reference. Bertechramno worked at Rouen, a commercially active Seine valley mint whose output reflects the dense network of Frankish trade routes connecting the Channel coast to the Rhineland.

The extreme weight reduction visible across surviving Merovingian gold — tremisses of this period routinely falling well below the theoretical 1.5g Byzantine standard — reflects decades of deliberate debasement that would eventually push Frankish currency toward silver entirely by the late 7th century.
