Libius Severus was a puppet emperor in every meaningful sense — installed by the generalissimo Ricimer in 461 after the murder of Majorian, he controlled little beyond the Italian peninsula and was recognized by neither the Eastern court nor the commanders holding Gaul and Dalmatia. His four-year reign produced a thin coinage, and the Mediolanum mint was already in steep decline by this point, its output a fraction of what Ravenna and Rome managed.
RIC X 2726 is among the scarcer tremissis types attributed to his reign.
