| Obverse description | Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Justin I facing right, rendered in the late antique style characteristic of early Byzantine coinage. The emperor wears a pearl diadem and military paludamentum, with detailed engraving of the cuirass visible at the shoulder. A circular border frames the effigy, around which runs the Latin imperial legend. The portrait exhibits the stylized, somewhat flat treatment typical of hammered tremisses struck at the Constantinople mint during the early sixth century. |
