Obverse description Draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Heraclius I facing right, wearing an elaborate plumed helmet with crest. The emperor is depicted with a short beard, and his right hand appears raised toward the chest. A circular legend surrounds the effigy in the field, rendered in a bold, somewhat roughly executed hammered style characteristic of early seventh-century Byzantine coinage.
