| Reverse description | Central field occupied by a prominent cross, likely a cross-pommee or cross with expanded terminals, rendered in high relief in the debased Visigothic style. Flanking elements include pellets and schematic decorative devices arranged symmetrically around the cross. The encircling Latin legend reads + ISPALI PIVS, identifying the mint city of Hispalis (modern Seville) and the royal epithet PIVS. The reverse composition closely follows Late Byzantine tremissis conventions, translated into the angular, abstracted vocabulary of Visigothic goldsmith work. The irregular flan edge and bold relief are consistent with hammered production at a provincial Iberian mint. |
