| Obverse description | Stylized royal bust facing right in low relief, rendered in the schematic Visigothic manner characteristic of late seventh-century Iberian coinage. The effigy displays a rounded head with summary facial features, set within a plain inner field. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, reading + I D NN · ERVIGIVS RX, identifying King Erwig by name and royal title. The flan is irregular and slightly scalloped at the edges, consistent with hand-struck hammered production. The overall design reflects the progressive abstraction of Byzantine prototypes that typifies Visigothic tremisses of this period. |
